Rotary wheels installed on spray-dryer atomizers produce a highly homogeneous spray over a wide range of mean droplet sizes. The spray characteristics are adjusted by changing rotating speed and by selecting the wheel type best matched to the product and the target particle size.
A correct choice of wheel virtually eliminates clogging and lets the plant tune particle size to specification simply by adjusting speed.
The wheel is one of the main components of the atomizer and the most highly stressed part, because it combines very high rotating speed (up to 250 m/sec, generating large centrifugal forces), contact with abrasive and/or corrosive products, and contact with the high temperature of the drying air.
Wheels are manufactured in wear- and corrosion-resistant materials with replaceable bushes and vanes, and are supplied to suit the make and model of the existing atomizer.
